Earlier I did a general overview of this band. This list breaks down just twenty of my favorite songs from the Dream Theater catalogue that I feel best represents their diversity.
Notice "Space-dye Vest" is still on this list. It's a masterpiece song they'd struggle to match. The song is composed by Long Island musician Kevin Moore, who left the band right after the recording and didn't even get to tour for the album. Moore has gone on to do soundtrack work and indie releases, but he walked away from the commercial music industry. He cashed in on seven album releases with Dream Theater, which includes a Greatest Hits and live albums, but he could've had much more if he had stayed. He chose not to, and that's respectable. This is a guy I want to interview and talk with.
Not to take away from the rest of what Dream Theater did after Moore. There's a lot of great songs on here. And they're still at it touring, recording, and doing what they love.
