Billy Joel Openers & Closers

This playlist features all the tracks that open and close the Billy Joel albums. It's just an alternative way to listen to your favorite artists, which is why playlists rule. Back in the day when albums mattered more to most, artists (and producers) thought about the sequence of their albums. How it starts matters. It's the first impression and that has a lasting psychological effect. How it ends matters, since it's the last thing you hear on the album.

As you'll see here, most of Billy's albums start out with an explosive track like "Big Shot," "You May Be Right," or "No Man's Land." Even the Piano Man album starts with a fast paced song right out of the gate. Only the first album Cold Spring Harbor starts with a piano ballad, but that whole album is one big piano ballad.

Most of Billy's albums close out with a softer more reflective touch like "And so it goes," "Where's the orchestra," and ""Everybody has a dream." However, Piano Man is an anomaly, which ends with the explosive "Captain Jack." Maybe that's just because it's one of the greatest albums of all time.
