Alter Bridge is a great band. They're solid players, though I don't really care for their work as Creed with a different singer. It shows how a singer's voice and lyrics could make or break a band for someone. Creed had nothing much to offer me. Alter Bridge though with the voice and lyrics of Myles Kennedy has superb songs that really touch me.
This playlist goes backwards in time starting with the newest. You'll notice far less songs from each album with their newer material. They sadly lost me in recent albums to the point where I won't even buy the albums anymore. The first three albums were magic though.
What happened? In my opinion, they became self-conscious about their softer songs and started to pander to the crowds who saw their shows at the metal fests they were part of. They went in a harder direction, yet that's not really why I listen to Alter Bridge, and it doesn't suit them as well as their more melodic rock. It's strange because I don't want them to keep sounding the same, yet they are with the new material they do.
Obviously people still like them, maybe some more, but for me personally their conversion feels forced, over produced, and misproduced (which means a producer is pushing them in the wrong or same old direction). This also happened with Slash and his work with Myles; and guess what? It's all the same producer, Michael Baskette. He had his good days, but now everything's sounding the same. Go with someone new, please.
