Songs of Cold, Winter, & December

I don't have a playlist for new years (Happy New Years by the way), but I do have one for winter songs. Most of the the titles have cold, November, December, or January in them. While there is no set order, other than a rhythmic sense (as I strive for in my most of my playlists), the first ten are certainly my favorites. There is one other stand out track toward the end titled "Winter Song" by Sarah McLachlan, which I consider my favorite contemporary holiday song. These are all fun tracks to reflect on the cold, dark season, a low point in life just before the light grows and the spring returns with warmth. It's the birth or rebirth time for all of us who live in climates that provide the four seasons. I pity those who don't get to live through those seasons. Winter is perhaps my favorite, a magical season of renewal.

Cinderella starts out the list with "Long Cold Winter" a bluesy rock track with incredible guitar work. This is followed with a light-hearted fun song "Snow Day" from Lisa Loeb's first brilliant album. The third track is back to a more serious tone with "Winter Sun" by Dishwalla. We stick to that same deep reflection with track four "December Wind" by Blaze Bailey. "Lucky One" brings things back up for a moment just before a deep dive into the depths of pain and recovery in the classic song "Winter" by Tori Amos.
